Maya Brezing an Irish artist working and living in Dublin. The continuity of nature compared to the fast-paced production and destruction caused by humans has been the springboard for her current body of work. Taking inspiration from derelict, overgrown spaces around Dublin, she looks at how nature constantly renews itself and reclaims spaces and buildings that have been abandoned. This body of work imagines a perhaps not-so-distant future, where there are only remnants of mankind and nature has taken over once more. While the man-made physical world will deteriorate, nature is constant. Brezing admires the hand-made, therefore her work has an imperfect, tactile quality. Her printed pieces layer the mechanical lines of photo-etching with more loose, fluid lines of hard ground. These different processes manifest the man-made and organic forms in her work. Intertwining imagery of rubble and ruins with the fragility of new growth. Maya Brezing is a recent graduate of NCAD with a BA (Hons) Degree in Fine Art specialising in Print. She was awarded the Black Church Print Studio Graduate Award 2022 and the Fingal Recent Graduate Residency 2023 in MART Gallery and Studios. Her work is held in the Office of Public Works Collection, St. Vincents University Hospital and the DCU Art Collection.
