Maria works with images from both the natural world and from narratives or stories, exploring the interconnection between animals, humans, and plants, including the darker and uncanny elements. Starting from a very strong commitment to drawing, she develops images using a mixture of traditional and non -traditional methods, including etching, Drypoint, monoprint and installation. Stains, burns, spills and holes are important parts of the images, playing with the axis of creativity and destruction which runs through her practise. She approaches printmaking from a sensory and expressive lens and uses plant dyes and a variety of papers to create multi layered images exploring the sensitivity and interaction between living organisms. Maria originally studied painting studied at Norwich School of Art and MA in printmaking at Camberwell College of Art. Maria has exhibited and is collected widely. She is a member of the London Organisation of Original Printmakers and The Norwich Print Fair. Highlights include winning the Award for Outstanding Work at the Norfolk Contemporary Art Society 2022 Exhibition, and showing at The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition ‘Climate’ 2022.
