Unique Work

Abdul Musawir’s work is a poetic narration of grief, loss, and nostalgia. A multidisciplinary artist, Shabbir uses a combination of various printmaking techniques to bring to life what lurks in the shadows of his heart, to evoke suppressed emotions of grief, and to embrace a memory forgotten. He seeks inspiration from music, Urdu poetry, and nature to take his audience on a journey into the past. Shabbir’s recent work, called "Anamnesis", exhibited here for the first time, encapsulates his struggle to face the reality of his father’s departure from the world, of a life existing within the realm of non-existence, of someone here but not quite. This work uses etching, fused with emboss. The second piece “Time Suspended”, created with etching, depicts the conflict between time passing and time still. Ancient architecture has historical value and memories, yet the people who interact with it end up being nothing but ghosts of passing shadows. Shabbir graduated from the National College of Art, Lahore in 2018 major in Printmaking. His work has been exhibited at multiple national and international exhibitions since 2019, including “Self-Portrait – International Printmaking Exhibition” (Athens, 2023), “Then and Now” (Slade School UCL, 2021), and “A Voice to a Voice” (India, 2019).
