Irene Graham is a printmaker based in London. Her most recent work has been a process of reflection of past images. During 2022 Irene lost her mother and her eldest daughter left home for university in the space of 3 weeks. With this huge sense of loss she began reflecting on the past and of family and of what that means. Using childhood photographs as her reference she explores the connections between parent to child, child to parent and of sibling to sibling. These past moments of a collective shared time that are now just memories. The images are an intensely personal exploration of her subject, though with an ambiguity of image which lends itself to the haziness of memory. Washed out colours reference the polaroids of the 1970’s enhancing the fragility of remembering the past. Irene came to printmaking later in life studying the craft at East London Printmakers, City Lit and most recently Morley College. Irene’s work is firmly rooted in the intaglio process using etching and drypoint as her main way of communicating. She has exhibited at the WCPF for the on 4 occasions and her artwork has also been included in The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
