Gill Burke | Eaglehawk Neck, 2018

£320.00

Etching

28 x 38 cm

Edition of 10

Gill Burke’s work explores the Australian landscape, focussing on it’s unique and rugged beauty. Using a combination of styles and materials she aims to display the diversity of one of the largest countries on earth which also spans an entire continent. She eschews the old toxic etchants and grounds with all her works developed using safer printmaking methods and a number of different platemaking techniques including linocut, zinc etching and photopolymer. She also layers colour using relief and viscosity techniques on traditional intaglio plates to give a broader dimension to her work. Burke’s recent series of prints shown here is an accumulation of work from her travels across Australia. The beautiful mangroves of the Kimberley in Western Australia, bush-fire affected landscapes in Tasmania, tranquil lakes in Queensland and urban bushland in the Sydney area reflect the vast range of landscapes where nature rules in an often harsh and hostile environment. Since embracing printmaking in 2010 when she joined Warringah Printmakers Studio, Burke has studied under a number of Master Printmakers including David Fraser, Basil Hall, Rew Hanks, Gary Shinfield, Silvi Glatteur, Susan Baran and Andrew Baldwin. She has exhibited in a number of exhibitions and competitions in New South Wales.
