Sarah Strachan Ayeshah Zolghadr are artists working at the interface of printmaking. Sarah transitions into print from sculpture and ceramics, while Ayeshah translates an architectural background into print and back again. Both continue to investigate the spaces in between 2D and 3D — as artists and curators. Sarah’s transdisciplinary practice senses environmental changes through deep conversations with people, place, the land, and the materials and objects associated with these. Her interest lies in how perception affects our ecological awareness and thinking and she explores her ideas and research through printmaking, painting, and ceramics; often fusing sound and/or moving image into the final installations. Ayeshah’s interdisciplinary practice explores relationships and communication through repetitive action. Architectural thinking, mathematical investigations, and the augmentation of analogue and digital technologies inform her research. Ayeshah’s work traces unforeseen shifts that occur from translating indirect mark-making into 3D forms and back again through printmaking, drawing and sculpture in parallel. The artists began collaborating at Cambridge School of Art, where they graduated in MA Fine Art and MA Printmaking (2022). Their ongoing research project ‘The Anxiety of Interdisciplinarity’ saw the duo conceive and curate an open call exhibition at the International Printmaking Conference IMPACT 12 (2022). They were awarded the Arts Scholars Curwen Printmaking Bursary for their ‘Boundary Objects’ project, resulting in an exhibition of collaborative works in print and ceramics and in conversation with Curwen’s unique print archive (2022). The next iteration of their collaboration was recently selected for the ART@ARB 2023 programme.
