Dave has always enjoyed drawing and spent many days as a boy drawing from inspirations such as magazine and books. While in school Dave tried many mediums settling in the main on pencil or pen and ink drawings. In 1997 Dave joined the RAF as an electronics technician, becoming distanced from artistic pursuits and focused on trade skills. Dave found his hand could turn to most activities and while travelling the world, Dave decided that it was time to create and bought his first DSLR camera and was captivated by the way a camera could manipulate to create startling images from the buildings and landscapes surrounding him. After a chance encounter with Jenny Gunning, Dave’s passion for the arts grew further when seeing what Jenny and her family were creating. He delved into learning printmaking, alongside drawing in the field with Jenny and her father Dave Gunning. Becoming a skilled printmaker under their tuition he has developed further skills in photographic printmaking and Mokuhanga. Upon retirement of his father-in-law in 2020 Dave has undertaken the role of designer and manufacturer of the Gunning Arts Etching Printing Press which are sold internationally through the family Printmaking Studio and gallery.
