Unique Work

Exploring the relationship between land water and sky, Catherine’s work invites the viewer to stand on the shoreline between conscious and unconscious worlds. These pieces are from two distinct bodies of work, ‘Stories of the Sea’ /cyanotypes and ‘Isle of Skye’ etchings. Taking inspiration from traditional folksongs with lyrics that explore human emotional connection with the sea, led Greenwood to create large /cyanotype banners with mermaid imagery - which can be further seen to explore a mother and daughter relationship. These can also be read as personal histories capturing a moment in time before inevitable change. The etchings are from a series of prints made in response to the elements captured in drawings made en plain air on the Isle of Skye, Scotland; focusing on subliminal spaces and human perception of the landscape. Catherine lives in West Sussex and teaches etching in London, Sussex and Suffolk. She has exhibited this year in London, New York and Vienna, and is a member of Thameside Print Studios and Zea May Printmaking. As a member of the Wilderness Art Collective her work aims to promote discussion of the natural world, climate change and the way humans exist as part of nature.
