Ian Brown has a long-standing interest in the natural world and a forensic fascination with the mediating processes of photography and print. The scale, power and beauty of elemental interactions have often provided the imagery for his prints. Increasingly, concerns reflected in the prints, are directed at the impact on human populations as we disrupt and corrupt the planet’s systems. The most recent series, a work in progress involves the 4 elements, fire, water air and earth combining them with the Easter Island moas. Easter Islanders probably destroyed their environment in the making and moving of these figures. The smaller print precis’s a quote attributed to JFK. If not us, who? If not now, when? Inaction is not a neutral position. Ian Brown was elected an ARE in 2021, graduated with an MA in Printmaking at Camberwell in 2009.
