Gini Wade’s work reflects a fascination with the power that ancient myths still have to shape our modern imagination. Transformative interactions between the human, animal and otherworlds are all elements in the stories told to make sense of the mystery of existence. Wade’s recent series of four lithographs, Blodeuwedd, reference the eponymous Welsh myth. Made out of flowers for a man’s pleasure Blodeuwedd turns the tables as she asserts her own agency. Inevitably she pays the price by being transformed into an owl . Wade’s most recent series, Aspects of Epona, are an ongoing meditation on the cultural significance of the horse. Wade combines drawing on traditional lithography stones with photoplate. She worked as an illustrator for many years, before she learnt the magical art of lithography from Paul Croft RE during her postgraduate studies at Aberystwyth University, then at the Tamarind Institute, USA. She exhibits and teaches internationally, and her work is in many public and private collections, including the V & A, the Zuckerman Museum of Art, USA and the Hunan Fine Art Institute. She won the Regional First prize in the National Open Art 2016. She is a director of Aberystwyth Printmakers. .
