Xinyue Zhang’s practice focuses on presenting personal narratives through photographic approaches and highlights the fragile moments in modern life. Most of her images are shot in black and white films. By coloring the image through digital editing and hand-printing process, she rebuilds the tone of the photograph and grants it access to a personal narrative. The content of her images mainly focuses on nature and urban scenes, often with a sense of surrealness and randomness. And by exposing her own vulnerability, the artist explores the broad theme of modern identity. The artist’s recent work I Dance with My Blue, is a trio-tone photolithography. The photograph was taken on an untended field below the artist’s apartment, capturing the movement of grass dancing in the wind. Xinyue is currently studying at the Royal College of Art in Print MA. She previously exhibited in the Southwark Park Gallery in 2023 and received a scholarship given by the Chinese government in 2022.
