Lithograph

65 x 60 cm

Edition of 6

Penny Grist’s work is a response to landscape and environment. She is interested in a sense of place and expressing experience and memory visually. This series of Lithographs explores the surface of the landscape close-up, recording tangled webs of flora, sometimes overlayed with shadows or outlines of human intervention. These prints were made around the time of the Iraq war when military aircraft frequently flew low over her garden. The photo-etching of the boy running with a paper plane, a small white tent in the background, is taken from a film still and was made during that period, capturing a dream-like childhood moment. She has exhibited widely, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and London Contemporary Art Fair. She was represented by the New Academy Gallery from 1887 until it closed in 2017. She has also made short films and completed several artist residencies, including projects at Hestercombe Gardens, Cotswold Water Park and Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft. She works with all aspects of printmaking combining digital and analogue processes and teaches printmaking at Bath Spa University. Her work is held in private and public collections, including Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft and Chippenham Museum.
