Gina Cross is a mixed media artist whose recent work has been concerned with observing the interaction of colour and light. Her recent collection has been inspired by her travels in Sicily and mainland Italy where she observed the rich colours, noise and heat along with shadows and reflections that created repetitive shapes. Originally from a textiles background, Gina plays with a number of materials and processes to generate her artwork. Sweeping layers of paint on board are incorporated into photographic and digital compositions, alongside original paintings on board and linen. Gina has been exploring working with reclaimed copper and aluminium panels, including painting, etching and printing directly on to the metals, using both analogue and digital processes. First and foremost is Gina’s interest in the interaction of colour and form.
