Unique Work

Patti Taylor studied textiles, bookbinding and fine art at CityLit, and printmaking there and at London Print Studio. She has participated in various group exhibitions at Espacio Gallery, R K Burt, CityLit, London Print Studio and has twice been selected for the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair. She is a member of textiles2020 and PRISM and shows with them annually. Her book "Mind the Gap", a series of etchings, was selected for the Royal Academy Summer exhibition. Typically working to a narrative, she uses her bookmaking and textile skills to present sequences of related images which explore underlying themes. She also offers standalone works to evoke atmosphere and emotion. In "Here Am I", Patti’s full-size from-life bodyprint, she uses stitching to replicate her surgical scars, some dating back over 50 years. Creating this tapped into deep sensate memories prompting painful reminders of long forgotten or buried emotional and physical traumas. Her concertina book, "Of course I'm not", is a series of 25 drypoint images reflecting on the use of increasingly accessible Internet pornography. The images watch the watchers – the WHERE, WHEN and HOW. The explicit WHAT is unstated, but the WHAT of serious psychological damage to them and their relationships lingers, as does the initial WHY. "The Northern Lights" is a concertina book made to celebrate the birth of a miracle granddaughter, Aurora. Images of the Northern Lights are viewed through cutouts, and a 19th century poem by Violet Jacob runs along the top pages.
