Inspired by the stunning Jurassic coastline and the rolling hills of West Dorset, Katie Brent works expressively with a variety of mediums: aquatint etching, mono-printing, mixed media and painting. First taking photographs, or sketching directly ‘en situ’ to depict a particular moment in time and atmosphere. “I am drawn to the wonder of nature that surrounds me, I never tire of it, and seek to capture the atmosphere and splendor of it. It is a constant source of inspiration.” Describing the printing process: ‘The challenge of aquatint fascinates me; working from an image to capture the sense of place and evoke atmosphere, working out the phases of dark to light, the colour mixing when inking up. Revealing the print feels like magic and creates a childlike sense of joy when it is successful!’
