Unique Work

Olivia Musselman’s work explores the significance of intergenerational human connection and universal memory. In her recent series of monotypes, Musselman retrieves and documents family memories from her photo archive. Using rags and other tools to remove ink, she allows the image to naturally emerge with a focus on the most important moments. She narrows in on intimate details, such as hands or the contact of two figures, and lets the viewer determine the story. Though the figures represented are her family members, Musselman uses the monotype process to strike a balance between anonymous and identifiable. By wiping away ink and printing the image onto paper, she recreates the experience of memories losing detail and focus over time. The resulting monotypes are her contribution to a collective visual memory of universal experiences. Musselman is a candidate for a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, expected to graduate in December 2023. She has exhibited internationally in Rome and in the United States. In autumn of 2023, she will present her BFA Thesis Exhibition in Rome.
