Christine Calow | Indian Squares No.2, 2020

£430.00

Screenprint

50 x 50 cm

Edition of 6

Christine Calow works through the media of silkscreen printing, creating richly coloured and textured small edition and unique prints. Her inspiration is derived mainly from her travels. Christine’s work explores the interaction of abstract shapes and colour relationships, contrasting controlled, regular elements of structure with looser and more irrational mark making. She is fascinated by the ways in which colour can be used to define pictorial depth, to create mood and evoke emotion. The process of silkscreen printing gives her the freedom to experiment with vibrant colour combinations and textures. India has always fascinated Christine. Her current series of screenprints was initially inspired by her travels around Rajasthan: alleyways teeming with life and colour; glimpses of brilliantly coloured saris. She has expressed her impressions in abstract form, contrasting colour against colour. Christine studied at Cambridge School of Art, followed by a Degree in Printed Textiles at Loughborough College of Art and Design. Christine has exhibited widely and her work is in private collections in the UK and abroad. She has recently exhibited with the Printmakers Council and in the Derby Print Open, where she was an award winner.
