Angela Summerfield is a contemporary landscape painter and printmaker, who lives in rural North Gloucestershire. Her work is inspired by her contact with Nature and her research into early Empathy Aesthetics: the latter encompasses the psychological impact of light, colour and geometry. Angela’s creation of mono-prints and limited-edition prints are an integral part of her art practice. She was taught printmaking by Barry Herbert. ‘Awaiting (1)’ and ‘Awaiting (2)’ are limited-edition silk screen prints which explore the contemplative experience of stillness and the psychological impact of the hue, Blue. The poet and essayist, Rilke, defined the experience of Blue as the ‘listening blue.’ These prints are inspired by memories of Angela’s childhood, in North Yorkshire. Angela has studied Fine Art and Art History: University of Leeds (Fine BA Hons); Courtauld Institute of Art (History of Art MA); and City University, London (PhD Art History and Curatorship). She was awarded a British Academy scholarship for her PhD. In 2017 she was short-listed for the Jerwood Visual Arts Artists’ Bursary Award. Angela has exhibited widely both in London and the regions. These exhibitions include The Discerning Eye, ‘The Landscape of Memory,’ Noformat Gallery (London), and the Arts Council-funded group exhibition ‘Your Place: 60 Years of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park,’ (North Yorkshire). Angela is represented by the London art gallery, Noon Powell Fine Art. Her works are in numerous private collections in the UK and abroad.
