Unique Work
Helen Manning Clark's work explores the wildness and glory of nature, particularly flowering plants. Using Monoprint, overprinted multiple times, forms deep, luminous layers of colour and texture. This process allows the freedom of instinctive movement, creating gestural, painterly marks and embraces accidental spontaneity created on the printing press itself. Manning Clark's recent work returns to the bold image of the single flowering plant, studied in detail to allow for a wild, expressive interpretation of that image. Manning Clark graduated from Middlesex followed by the Royal Collage of Art with an MA in Printed Textiles. She was a founding member of The Cloth, a group of four artists who produced printed textiles, fashion collections and painting exhibitions, showing extensively in the UK, the USA and Japan. Manning Clark has exhibited widely both as a solo artist and in group shows, especially with Artichoke Print Studios at the Affordable Art Fair. Her work has been shown at the V&A, V&A Dundee and is archived at Glasgow School of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the V&A as well as exhibiting three times at the RA Summer Show.
