Cathrine Evelids’ work explores storytelling, weaving together text, images, and pattern. The stories and fragments of text in her images, are based on her own writing, and are often humourous recountings of episodes that capture certain time periods. The text is combined with characters and visual patterns, often inspired by the nordic nature, vintage photography, or Scandinavian design classics, like Marimekko wallpapers and fabrics. Evelids’ recent work, Grievances & Gratitudes, are planned as a series consisting of 5 prints. The series will contain stories and writings, and explores the change in expectations and attitudes over time, and especiallly to how girls where brought up in the 70s and 80s. The visual expression is inspired by, amongst other things, DIY culture and fanzines. The prints are made in large format, 2m/2m, printed on both canvas and paper. Evelid graduated form Chelsea College of Art in 1998 with an MA in Fine Art. Evelid has also written and had four novels published by Aschehoug Publishing House, and made public Art Projects for KORO, Norway’s national body responsible for curating, producing and activating art in public space. Recent exhibitions are the National Art Exhibition 2022, Norway, and the Norwegian Drama Festival, 2021.
