Gemma Trickey | The Mourner, 2023
Linocut
22 x 27 cm
Edition of 40
Gemma Trickey's work is a delve into the hagiography of our folk traditions, characters and fables. Marks we have left behind, buried treasure, old songs, wild and wonderful creatures from folklore, dreams and stories – her lino prints search for the stories and history we discover within our surroundings, and how they contribute to a sense of our place and interconnectedness in the present realm. Sometimes informed by real world tales, and others by fantastical fictions that are just on the edge of recognition; masked characters and playfully menacing monsters mingle in scenes rich with symbolism and meaning - a reward for the inquisitive. Trickey graduated from London Guildhall University in 2003 with a BA in Fine Art. She has recently exhibited at the Linoprint3 show at Bristol Centrespace gallery and is a core artist with a current exhibition at Heart of The Tribe gallery in Glastonbury.
