Jess Bugler | Forest Fragment I, 2023

£165.00

Carborundum

14 x 21 cm

Edition of 10

Bugler uses the concepts and language of printmaking to conjure internal worlds and interrogate predicaments. Her work evokes a sense of our fragility and offers space for reflection. To do as Bourgeois suggests and “physicalize the problem.” Bugler was awarded Peter Reddick bursary for Innovation in Relief Printmaking at Spike Print Studio and has won awards at the National Original Print Exhibition, H-Art and Flourish and was recently invited to join the Royal Cambrian Academy. Her group shows include The Contemporary Print Prize Exhibition 2023, The International Print Biennale, The Royal West Academy Open, Art Plus in France and Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair among others. Her current project, Alone Together, is a print installation made in collaboration SPIKED, with Leonie Bradley ARE and Prerna Chandiramani. It explores the state of aloneness from isolation to solitude. This series of Fragmented Forest prints originate from Jess’s contribution to this installation. They are collograph prints using carborundum printed onto Chinese paper and then waxed giving them translucency. This gives the deep moody tones to the trees and contrasts them with the airy impermanence of their waxed background.
