Sarah Cliff's work explores the darkness of the everyday, the domestic and the bodily. Enjoying the smoky, expressive properties of copperplate aquatint etching, Cliff combines images sourced from life drawings, made objects and photographs. The context is often associated with historical and literary texts. The World War II poem, "Serenade, Any Man to Any Woman" by Dame Edith Sitwell, illustrated in a series of four etchings, considers the plight of a soldier dying in battle, longing for a love reunion after life. Sarah Cliff is a tutor on the West Dean College MFA program and at Ochre Print Studio, where she was Artist in Residence throughout 2018. She was awarded her MFA with distinction, University of Sussex, in 2017. Her work can be viewed @cliff_sarah
