Sonia Stanyard

£0.00
In this ongoing series Sonia Stanyard's work explores how limitation can create freedom.

Using Green silk screened paper as her starting point, this raw material forms the basis for all subsequent works.
She then applies different processes and reconfigures this material to various ends, from tearing , splicing and weaving to finally meticulously reconstructing the debris on the studio floor.
Sonia’s playful approach towards her clear conceptual idea of restriction of palette and material keeps finding new ways to express and present the green paper, you could say - this material has become her subject matter.

Sonia graduated from Southampton in 1997 with a BA hons in Fine Art.

She has gone on to evolve and develop her practice while exhibiting through galleries and art fairs in England and Europe, these include, Verona Art Fair, Art Basel and Art London.

Her paintings are collected privately and have also been acquired for public display by The Southlands Hospital, East Sussex, UK.

She had a solo show in Treviso, Italy, entitled: “Nurtured Landscapes” and was the winner of The Door Prize for Painting in Bristol.

In 2007 Sonia won a fellowship award to attend a residency at The Vermont Studio Centre, USA. For this she was awarded National Lottery Funding for research and travel.

She recently completed the Turps Banana Correspondence Course 2021 ending with a group show ‘In Formation’ at The Thames Side Studio Gallery.

Sonia lives and works in London.
