Bronwen Paterson

£0.00
Born in South Africa, Bronwen Paterson’s work reflects the deep connection she feels with her birth country and its people. Through the forms and textures she uses in her imagery, she attempts to pay homage to the complex country from which she originates.

Paterson’s work is made up of carefully considered layering, constructed from a combination of screen print, monoprint, hand sewing and mixed-media. The result is a one multi-dimensional surface that gives her prints a luxurious tactile appearance. The thread creates a three-dimensional embossed effect, and the stitches seems to pulsate with a quiet energy. By beautifying her characters, Paterson makes her images potent symbols that take on an almost religious intensity. Paterson’s work explores the power of symbolism, and she enjoys the fact that each viewer’s interpretation of the image differs through its ambiguity.

Paterson’s graduated from University of the Arts London with a degree in Surface Design. She has exhibited widely, the highlights being The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and being shortlisted for the Sunny Art Prize. She also has work in the V&A Print Collection and the archive in the Scarborough Museums Trust.
