What is a Collograph?

A collograph is a way to make prints that offers a unique and textured result. To create a collograph, various materials such as paper, fabric, glue, and sand are assembled on a sturdy base like cardboard or wood. This amalgamation of textures and layers forms the foundation for the printing plate.

Once the base is prepared, ink is applied to the textured surface. The ink adheres to the different materials, enhancing the visual and tactile elements of the final print. When the inked plate is pressed onto paper, it transfers the intricate textures and layers, resulting in a print that is rich in detail.

Collography opens up a world of possibilities by allowing artists to experiment with a wide range of materials. By combining different elements, artists can create prints that showcase a variety of textures and colors, adding depth and complexity to their artwork.
