This body of work was born out of Flavia's need to record and make sense of her experiences as a mother. Whereas mothering is an experience shared by a great percentage of women, and therefore a very varied one, most of the widely known depictions of mothers and children illustrate only one narrative: that of an adorable child and an adoring mother. Flavia has therefore committed to telling her own story: one where love thrives alongside melancholy, contradictions and a great number of existential questions.
Flavia Pinto holds a BA Drawing from Falmouth University. She has further specialised in Printmaking after working as an assistant to John Howard RE. Flavia has exhibited in group shows throughout the UK and Portugal and her work is held in significant private collections.
