Brief:

Source artworks for 2 boats by French artists depicting French countryside scenes, of wine regions or rivers ideally based between Carcassonne & Beziers. Each boat will have its own distinct style, 1 more traditional and the other potentially more contemporary.

Artworks need to range in sizes to be placed throughout the boat; living room, dining room, corridors & two bedrooms.

Please note all these works are by French artists. This is only an initial presentation & we will continue to add to this list. We have a number of artworks by artists of other nationalities which fit the brief and will add them if you think it is worthwhile.

Marina Vandra

Graduated from the ENSAD (National School of Decorative Arts) in Paris with the congratulations of the jury in 2015 and the Royal College of London in 2017. Marina Vandra lives and works in Paris. In 2018, her work in Engraving was rewarded by the Lacourière engraving prize awarded by the National Library of France and the Foundation of France. The paintings of Marina Vandra present spaces that suggest the wallpaper, the sets, the trunk the eye or the window. This in order to question the perception of our environments, their multiplicity of interpretations and the idealization of reality by the composition of illusions. The projects have the starting point of a place. From lights, architectural elements, flora and feelings that define them, paintings continue and increase their presence. Her work questions the way in which the gaze and understanding of our environments shape our way of acting and interacting with them.

Anne Paulus

Anne Paulus originally qualified and worked in a scientific field, but subsequently attended Versailles school of Fine Art. She lives and works near Paris, where she explores the poetic links between etching, printmaking and ceramics. She teaches contemporary printing technics and leads training courses in her studio. Anne Paulus often shows her prints in France and abroad.

She is an efficient member of several French art organisations, including Graver Maintenant and Manifestampe (French Federation for printmaking art) and has been curator for several printmaking exhibitions. The images I have suggested are of Maps and rivers, so would be great for a river boat.

Emmanuel Gatti

"Emmanuel Gatti practices experimentation in the field of printed works. These large aquatint formats attempt to make this medium, often reduced to a classical approach, a resolutely contemporary process. These formats are imposing, revealing themselves in the architecture and allowing it to be ""dressed in the same way as Japanese draperies or large rollers (Kakemono).

Its universe is presented as a great baroque setting empty of any human presence ; the rock, the cliff and especially the cave « refers to a place of origins or Arcadia before any human presence and language; nostalgia for the origins or a world to come where these great settings await a new humanity. The body and the portrait emerge from an always primary and Arcadian nature."

VICTORIA ARNEY

Drawing from sonograms which show the shape of her bird song recordings, Victoria’s prints evoke the flow & script of life around her studio. Her library of plates and sounds she successively uses to make small editions and large installations. Her use of wood links to the natural spaces where she makes her recordings. Collecting information on particular birds & places over several years she has developed a dialogue of place that mirrors back a script of ephemeral life extending printmaking into the physical and the music conversations.
