Faye Winslade's work explores the fragility of life: relationships, mental health and mortality whilst retaining an underlying dark humour. Faye creates imagery where her subjects (always female) seem permanently stuck in worlds dominated by black tones and dark textures. Each work begins as a drawing which is then zinc plate photo-etched and finished by building layers of tone using aquatint. The women depicted interact in subtle ways and each picture pays homage to another previous drawing. Faye enjoys creating these characters and delights in the long process involved in turning these drawings into prints. Each stage of printmaking breathes life into her artwork and transports it to a new world. Faye graduated from Byam Shaw School of Art in 2009 with a BA in Fine art. She has previously exhibited at the Woolwich Contemporary Art Print Fair in 2022.
