Maura de Andrade's work explores an intimate perspective in relation to the natural world; his engravings demonstrate a poetic critique of the bucolic image and the memories that compose it and that remain intact in history.
The engravings presented are part of the “Lugares da Memória” series, a project awarded by the State of São Paulo in 2016. The series represents the route taken by Portuguese colonizers in 1532, from the village of São Vicente to the Planalto do Piratininga. The selected engravings depict buildings in Paranapiacaba, a village created by the English between 1865 and 1867 to house railway workers. A pioneering railway connection in Brazil.
Maura lives in the state of São Paulo, with a master's degree in Visual Poetics from the School of Communication and Arts at the University of São Paulo in 2023.
Since 2010 he has been holding exhibitions. The main highlights are the 10th Douro International Engraving Biennial, the IPCNY, USA, the Casa da Xilogravura Museum and the ECKE GALERIE in Augsburg, Germany.
His works are present in several public collections, such as the Douro Museum, the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, in addition to the deposit of the book "Lugares da Memória" at the Reina Sofia Library and the General Library of the University of Coimbra.
