Ralph Overill’s work evokes his feelings of alienation in an increasingly commodified and homogenised late capitalist society, often employing characters and settings from science fiction culture to explore the possibilities of lost futures – the paths that were not taken, and events that never got to pass. With its foundations in printmaking, Ralph’s practice expands into writing, photography, performance and installation: an investigation into our monsters, margins, and the melancholic, as he searches for the futures we yearn to remember.
Ralph was awarded a Professional Doctorate in Fine Art from the University of East London in 2022 and achieved an MA in Printmaking from Camberwell College of Arts in 2011. He has previously been awarded the Clifford Chance Purchase Prize and Curwen Studio Prize for his prints. Ralph currently lives in Scotland, after recently relocating from his childhood home of Essex, to work as intaglio technician at The Glasgow School of Art.
