Oscar Whicheloe is primarily a painter and printmaker. He is drawn to these processes as they have endless possibilities and allow him to translate what he sees, and the themes he chooses to explore, into an open-ended catalogue of studies. He is continually absorbed by the rich history and traditional techniques involved in both painting and printmaking. Studying the works of Rembrandt, Sargent, Turner, and Sickert (for example) has proven to be both inspirational and aspirational.

London, with its dynamic landscape, the perfect source of inspiration for his work. The landmark buildings, the urban cityscape, the shopfronts and window-displays, and the ever-evolving architecture draws him in, time and time again. He explores, on foot; finding different view-points.

Back in the studio, following an extensive editing process, he translates these vistas into small-scale pieces of artwork which draw the viewer in to have a closer look at something that they might otherwise walk past unnoticed.

Oscar has exhibited widely since 2005 in a number of independent shows, several times at the RA Summer Exhibition, The Mall Gallery, Bankside Gallery and Cork street Galleries.
