“When I am out walking I begin to pay attention to the world around me and get out of my head for a while noticing things; small stories of interest…”
Helens work investigates the way a place is experienced and remembered. How it is reinterpreted by the mind; details are altered and omitted, becoming imbued with one’s own outlook. Currently inspired by the raw, resilient and wild beauty of the places at the very edge of the Cornish landscape.
These pieces explore fluid and textural monotype printmaking to create expressive impressions of remembered and drawn moments in the landscape.
Using Perspex plates that are easy to handle and move about, she rolls, tips, smudges, scapes (and whatever else she feels needed!) the ink over the plate responding to and working with the ink patterns on the plate to add or take away what she feels necessary to bring the piece to completion.
Each print is the result of one plate only.
Helens process is in a constant state of evolution as she discovers new techniques that lead to the emergence of fresh ideas for further development. She explores novel techniques and combinations to infuse greater depth and uniqueness to the work in an effort to create pieces where the viewer can wander, free associate, remember and create small stories of their own.
