Sayuri Ichida’s practice revolves around themes of self-identity and reflects on her own memory and life experiences. In Ichida’s photographs, she explores the complexities of emotional states by portraying the human form and sculptural objects. Her artistic vision is driven by a search for beauty within settings that evoke a profound sense of nostalgia and timelessness, as these elements form the very foundation of her creative endeavours. Ichida’s recent series of photopolymer etching prints, titled "Ctrl Shift + J," delves into the psychological impact of relocation and emigration that she has experienced throughout her life. Through this body of work, her intention is to explore the intricate emotions and experiences of alienation that have persistently accompanied her journey. Ichida graduated from Tokyo Visual Arts College in 2006 with a BA in Fashion Photography, and she completed an MA in Photography Arts at the University of Westminster in 2022. Her work has been exhibited in various cities, including solo shows in 2022 at PhMuseum Lab (Bologna), IBASHO Gallery (Antwerp), Unseen Amsterdam, and InCadaques International Photography Festival (Cadaques). Additionally, her work was presented by IBASHO Gallery at Art Paris in March 2023. Her artworks are held in the collections of Museum Voorlinden, as well as several private collections.
