Rômulo Avi (b. 1992) is a Brazilian artist and currently based in London, UK. Originally graduating in 2017 with a BA in Architecture and Urbanism in Brazil, he later studied at the Florence Academy of Art before moving to London. He has recently graduated from his MFA (hons) at CGLAS, with his studio work focusing on heavily layered painting, supported by drawing and printmaking. Transience, utopia, dreams, and the occult are all aspects of reality that inform his work. The series of prints displayed are an exploration on the writings of William Blake, as well as the many illustrations and plates he produced in life. Through his own interpretation of Blake’s symbolic imagery, Romulo combines aquatint and etching techniques to bring these images to a new context and visual interpretation.
