Margot Loudon enjoys printmaking because creating the image marries eye, hand, and the elements of chance offered by the materiality of the process. The qualities of different papers, the inks, and the press, all offer their different challenges. She is still exploring different techniques, finding her own language, but is consistently pulled to the directness of drypoint mark-making which she finds is conducive to an energy and freedom in her drawing and compositions. In a recent series of prints, Margot Loudon revisits her background in the Classics to show in playful fashion stories from Greek myths, notably the ambiguous relationships between women and gods. While a viewer may find in her interpretations of the stories allusions to contemporary concerns, she is not depicting the women as victims. Europa enjoys her unique travel to Crete and her coming fame. Having earlier gained a diploma in painting at L ‘Ecole des Arts D’ Anderlecht, Brussels, she is currently in the final years there of a printmaking course.
