Jo Boddy’s practise focuses on places she is familiar with to explore human interaction with specific landscapes through the changing seasons and over time. Walking and sketching is central to Jo’s practise, as is experimentation within printmaking techniques. She uses the process of making the plate to delve more deeply into her theme, for example etching lino with caustic soda to mimic forest decay or utilising foraged materials to embed in a collagraph plate, or for a direct impression in ink or a soft ground etching. The Swinley Forest with its myriad of human uses is the sole subject of Jo’s current work. She is exploring how themes of climate change, timber extraction, outdoor leisure and conservation coexist in one small landscape, asking both what we expect from the forest and how we experience it. Jo graduated with a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at West Dean College in 2021 and is currently studying MA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins. Jo began exhibiting work in 2021. Highlights include wining the Lucie Green Printmakers Prize at the Southbank Printmakers Mini Print Competition 2021 and exhibiting at WCPF 2021 and 2022.
