Working with the forms and patterns of natural phenomena, Jane Eppel explores her deep-held belief in the intimate entanglement of all things. Detailed and delicate, her etchings allude to both the micro and the macro and pay homage to the work of Viya Celmins and Kiki Smith, in whose work she finds solace. Eppel focuses on the natural world: the soft knots of a bird's nest, the pitted surface of the moon or the sticky plumbing of the human heart - all are subject to the closest of scrutiny, to an eye which probes every aspect, combs every line. In her latest body of work, Eppel uses the techniques of hardground and drypoint, which she pushes to its limits to create works- and reveal worlds - of familiar mystery. Eppel graduated from the University of Cape Town with a degree in Fine Art in 2001. She has exhibited widely in South Africa, most notably at the Everard Read Gallery in Johannesburg and Cape Town. She has also exhibited at Everard Read London (2018). This is Eppel's first submission for the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair.
