Wings of Desire This diptych piece is about the idea of the human shoulder blades as the place where our wings would be attached. The wings are a bridge between the physical and the spiritual with the metaphysical concept of the angel who in Wim Wenders film 'Wings of Desire' wants to become human to experience physical love. In times like these the age-old human desire to fly, to escape our current reality, is very pertinent. Carol Wyss’ work is a concerted search for the structure of things – deconstructing existing and creating new recognizable patterns. The skeleton is the basic structure through which she examines the relationship of humans to their surroundings and our impact on and synergy with the planet we currently inhabit. Bones are essential in reconstructing who we are and where we come from. Recognizing patterns is crucial to humans, helping understand and predict what is coming. Abstraction is part of the process – not trying to hide the origins, rather broadening the possibilities for interpretation.
