Aurélie Sorriaux (1994, FR/UK) is a visual artist based in Bristol. After a Bachelor of Photography - Motion Pictures in France, she graduates with a Bachelor of Arts in Photography from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in the Netherlands. Her approach revolves around the subject of time and the traces that it leaves behind. In her work, she investigates how time expresses itself in geology as well as in human lives and ancestry. She explores the link with geology, studying the visible traces of time left upon the earth’s surface. Since 2021, Aurélie Sorriaux is working with printmaking, correlating the technique to the creation of rocks as well as the inscribed memories in humans. In her recent project, Aurélie Sorriaux collaborates with a geologist in research on stones. Working with stones' thin sections, she aims to visualize what remains visible and what disappears. She intends to bring awareness to the present as inescapably and physically tied to the past and the future. Each print from a stone speaks about the memory of the place it comes from and the impact of humans on it.
