Alba Urquia’s work explores matters related to existentialism and identity, the absurd, and the human condition. In a nutshell: who we are and why we are (here). In her practice, process and concept go hand in hand, and believes that the making process is as relevant as the finished piece. Lengthy processes serve her to shape ideas and repetition allows her to talk about the absurdity of our existence. She sometimes uses drawing elements and symbology to create narratives. All in all, Urquia is a printmaker convinced that spending enough time with limestones, will eventually turn her into one. Her recent body of work has been influenced majorly by Albert Camus’ interpretation of the Myth of Sisyphus, Jean-Paul Sartre's ideas on the transcendence of our being, and the body-mind dilemma. Urquia (Barcelona,1997) graduated in MA Print from the Royal College of Art in 2023 and received her bachelor's from the University of the Arts London in 2019. She became a key holder at Thames-Side Print Studio in 2021 and has exhibited widely since. Her work has been shown at ASC Gallery, Southwark Park Galleries, Fen Ditton Gallery in Cambridge, Spike Gallery in Bristol, and Pump House Gallery. She has previously shown work at WCPF 2021 and 2022.
