Martha Beaumont (born Newcastle, 1986) is a multimedia artist currently living and working in North Yorkshire. She holds an MA in Fine Art from City and Guilds of London Art School. Selected exhibitions include Elsewhere with Barber Lopez in 2024, Far From the Madding Crowd at Menier Gallery in 2015, and a solo show A Place out West at Delahunty Fine Art 2015. She has also completed residencies in Ireland and London, including Lake Island at Degree Art, Vyner Street in 2014. Martha’s work is about perception. She’s interested in the tussle between imagination and reality, between painterly and photographic, between the flat image and expansive space. The desert for her evokes associations of escape and solitude, as well as isolation and fear. Her work investigates the contrast between physically being there and images of the landscape. Her process spans painting, printmaking, installation and staged photography. In her current work, she is exploring ideas around colour theory and optical illusion. Blending geometric form with vast expanses of nature, she tries to impose a sense of order.
