Kate Watkins has been printmaking for over 20 years exploring a multitude of print processes. Her recent body of work has moved away from earlier figurative themes towards abstraction exploring the interplay between structural forms, colour and expressive mark making to create multi-layered uplifting artworks. Her preferred mediums are monoprint, block printing and screenprinting. One-off geometric prints are intended as representations of imagined architectural forms which provide the viewer with a meditative space in which to take shelter. Created using monoprinting and screenprinting techniques each piece is printed over several sessions. Artworks progressively develop a dynamic relationship between overlapping shapes by building layers of transparent ink together with the addition of handmade marks. Most recently Kate has been exploring presentation methods and is developing new prints which are mounted on plywood panels giving dimension and solidity to the finished print. Kate has an MA in Fine Art Printmaking from Winchester School of Art and exhibits widely in local and national exhibitions. Exhibition highlights include The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair and Royal West of England Academy summer show. She is also a printmaking technical instructor and founder of 'Love to Print' art kits.
