Landscape is at the heart of Rebecca’s work but the subjects are abstract shapes and lines which come together and float away, symbolising moments and characters from her own life. These elements serve as anchors within the dream like landscapes, inviting viewers to add their own interpretations and symbolism to the work.
Rebecca’s process begins with immersion in the physical landscape. Previous bodies of work have been a response to Cornwall, Iceland and Scotland. The final works are a composite of elements recorded with charcoal, ink and film photography, cut up, distorted and combined to create an unnatural location, one which speaks as directly to the emotions as it does to the senses.
The collaging of these different elements and mediums is where the magic truly happens - It's a process of reimagining, transforming and combining the original landscape with herself. The result is a series of artworks that are at once familiar yet surreal, encouraging the viewer to lose themselves within the spaces.
Rebecca graduated from Loughborough University of Art and Design, where she studied Fine Art. She is currently a Printmaking Fellow at City and Guilds and a workshop leader at East London Printmakers. She has recently exhibited at The London Original Print Fair, soho Revue, The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, The Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, and Eames Fine Art
