Sally Adkins is a British artist whose practice explores the within and beyond in landscape. She works predominantly in the heritage of acid etching alongside monotype and contemporary interventions in print. Her work is always underpinned by literature, particularly poetry relating to place. Adkins’ recent series of works, ‘The River Psalms’, investigates an emotional and spiritual response to immersion in nature, especially the dialogue between water and land. Her resulting copper plate etchings are visual psalms, playing with the devotional tradition of the diptych and recto / verso of book pages. Sugar lift, spit bite, soap ground, river water and chine collé are used to create delicate meditations on the fragility of rivers.
