J Yuen Ling Chiu’s work investigates the relationships between migration, urban landscapes, and empire. Her practice shifts between themes, underpinned by formal research of lower toxicity, more sustainable printmaking methods and materials. She takes inspiration from what is immediately around her, whether that be her daily commute along the Thames Path, to the paraphernalia of a printmaking practice, to community of pigeons nesting in the abandoned ferry outside her studio. Her work contemplates how it is we all arrive where we are, and where we might go from here. Chiu graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art with an MFA in 2007, and works from her studio at Thames-side Studios in Woolwich. She has exhibited in the UK, Canada, Japan, and the Netherlands.
