Unique Work
Cathy Leather is a California based printmaker whose work is driven by environmental themes, wildlife conservation and an obsession with birds. With a professional background in emerging technology, she explores how digital tools can enrich the tactile qualities of a print. Her work often incorporates field recordings and animations accessible via QR codes, offering a multisensory experience. The work submitted for this exhibition results from time spent in nature—as a hiker, artist, and volunteer. Leather uses her art to better understand the birds she observes and the fragile ecosystems they rely on. Although she has explored all methods of printmaking, her favorite techniques include drypoint etching, monotype and photopolymer. Her prints are held in private collections in Italy, Canada, and California. She has exhibited in California, Canada, Italy and Massachusetts. She has an MFA in New Media from the Academy of Art, San Francisco. Leather currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Marin Society of Artists located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
