Mike Spike’s images cast a curator’s eye on a world that is often taken for granted; from the grandeur of its architectural history to the minutiae of the everyday things that we handle. Using a variety of compositional constructs to organise his images, he examines the ‘natural’ and fabricated, often with a subtext of storytelling. If asked, he will tell you his images memorialise a story that has not as yet committed to text. Mike graduated from the London College of Printing with a BA, before attending the Royal College of Art in 1977 to complete an MA in Graphic Design. Mike is more comfortable in his internal world and creating high resolution images for print. He uses a computer, drawing with a stylus and using a vast array of mark making tools, oils, watercolours, pencils, pens etc. Mike personally prints his works as limited editions of high resolution giclée prints, using archive grade Hahnemuhler Art papers.
