Working across printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, and sound, Matthew Wilson’s work uses process-heavy techniques of print media to explore themes of repetition, sampling, and the nature of imagery. His work investigates the capabilities of elements derived from preexisting materials, emphasizing the change that occurs when they are replicated and overworked. Using lo-fi equipment for documentation, he embraces their unpredictability, resulting in work that relies on disruption to form new visual narratives. Wilson graduated with an MA in Print from the Royal College of Art (2018), and previously studied Fine Art at the University of Dundee (2013). He was selected for 2014 RSA New Contemporaries, and is a recent recipient of the Scottish Artist Benevolence Association Award (2025), the RSA Benno Schotz Prize (2024), and the Dewar Award (2016, 2017). He was a selected artist for the RCA Exchange Residency in Calgary, Canada (2017), and the RSA Residencies for Scotland (2022/23).
