Rae Birch Carter is an artist whose work often incorporates the human figure within a contemporary context. Working intuitively and expressively, Rae works predominantly on paper. In this recent series of works she uses the unpredictability of monotype printing to suggest fleeting scenes with a sense of impermanence. A glimpsed flash of something happening that the viewer stands outside of.. A mirror or a screen that separates. Rae is interested in the pressures, the voyeuristic pleasures, and the isolation that often come along with the contemporary world. The aspirational images that bombard us and that we ourselves create inside the distorting screen world that so many of us are now participants in. These large prints, are part of a new and continuing series, developing on from her previous Dinner Party Guests’ series shown at Woolwich CPF in 2024 Rae is a self taught artist who lives and works in East London. Shortlisted in 2022 for The Trinty Buoy Wharf drawing prize, The ING Drawing Bursary 2022 and 2023 Selected for the Royal Watercolour Society 2023 And for Exeter Contemporary Open 2023 Awarded the NEAC Scholarship 2023-2024 Rae was awarded the Artichoke Print Prize at Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair in 2023 Some of the prints created during that residency were shown at Woolwich CPF 2024 Selected for the RA Summer Exhibition 2025
